What a full-boat charter actually changes
The word “private” gets used loosely in this market. On a liveaboard it means something specific and worth spelling out.
The route becomes yours. On a scheduled departure the itinerary is fixed because sixteen people booked it. On charter, the cruise director builds the plan around your group. Want three days at Sangeang and Banta instead of one? Want to skip the dragon trek entirely and dive more? Want to sit at Moyo an extra night because the light is good? Those are conversations, not exceptions.
The timings become yours. Dawn dives, or nobody in the water before nine. Dinner at six for a family with children, or at nine after a sunset dive. The kitchen cooks to your brief and your dietary requirements rather than to a mixed manifest’s average.
The dive plan becomes yours. A single-certification-level group can be run to that level. A mixed group can be split properly, with guides allocated by ability instead of by cabin. Photographers get the long, slow, boring dives that produce good images.
And there are no strangers. On a nine-night crossing with fourteen people in a shared saloon, that is not a small thing.

Bands are for planning. The variables that move a quote most are season (July–August and Christmas–New Year carry premiums), trip length, whether the vessel must reposition from Labuan Bajo to Bali empty to collect you, and fuel — a Bali-departure charter burns considerably more than a park-only charter.
What a Bali departure adds to the bill
This is the honest difference between a charter from Benoa and the Labuan Bajo-based private charter most operators sell. Bali is roughly 350–400 nautical miles from Labuan Bajo. If the vessel is based in Flores for the Komodo season, someone pays for it to sail west empty. That repositioning cost lands either in your rate or, if your dates happen to coincide with a scheduled repositioning leg, mostly disappears.
The practical consequence: flexible dates are worth real money on a Bali-departure charter. Ask which weeks the vessel is already scheduled to move.

Included and excluded
Typically included: exclusive use of the vessel, full crew, all meals and snacks prepared to your brief, soft drinks and drinking water, guided diving with tanks and weights, tenders, fuel within the agreed route, cruise director, port clearances, arrival transfer.
Typically excluded: flights, Komodo National Park and harbour fees, alcohol (many charters allow you to provision your own), dive equipment rental, nitrox, dive courses, crew gratuities, insurance, and significant route deviations requiring extra fuel.

Charter quoting is slow when the brief is vague. Include all of the following and you will normally get a firm number on the first or second reply:
- Target dates, plus how flexible they are — a two-week window often changes the price materially
- Exact guest count, and the cabin split you want (couples, singles, children)
- Departure port preference: Benoa, Serangan or Labuan Bajo
- Number of divers, their certification levels and approximate logged dives
