Add two to four days in Flores after your liveaboard. Batu Cermin is a 90-minute filler near the airport, Cunca Wulang a half-day canyon walk, and Wae Rebo a genuine two-day commitment — five to six hours by road plus a two-to-three-hour uphill trek and an overnight in the village. Your fly-after-dive interval constrains all of it.
Most people step off the boat in Labuan Bajo and fly out the same afternoon, which is a shame, because Flores immediately behind the harbour is more interesting than the harbour. It is also the natural way to burn the surface interval you need before flying anyway.

These are planning estimates, not timetables. Flores road conditions and weather move them, sometimes considerably. Build slack into any plan that ends with a flight.
Is Wae Rebo worth the effort?
Yes, if you treat it as its own trip rather than an add-on. Wae Rebo is a traditional Manggarai village high in the mountains, built around conical thatched houses called mbaru niang, reached only on foot up a forest trail. There is no road to the village and no way to see it properly in a day from Labuan Bajo.
The realistic shape: drive five to six hours to Denge or the trailhead area and stay the night; trek two to three hours uphill the next morning; arrive, take part in the welcome ceremony, spend the afternoon and night in the village; walk down and drive back the following day. Two nights away from Labuan Bajo, minimum.
Etiquette that matters
Wae Rebo is a living village, not a heritage exhibit. Guests are formally welcomed by the village head in a ceremony before entering the houses — wait for it rather than wandering. Ask before photographing people. Accommodation is communal sleeping in one of the houses, with simple food, and the small fee you pay goes to the community. Dress modestly and follow your guide’s lead on which spaces are open to visitors.
Bring warm layers. It is at altitude and the nights are cold in a way nothing else on this trip prepares you for.
What is Cunca Wulang like?
A marble-walled canyon with a river running through it, reached by a drive of roughly an hour to an hour and a half and then a walk of thirty to forty-five minutes over rocky, sometimes slippery ground. At the end there are pools deep enough to swim in and ledges people jump from — sensibly, only where a guide confirms the depth.
It is the best half-day active option out of Labuan Bajo, and it works well as a decompression day when you cannot fly yet. Wear proper shoes; the approach is not a stroll. Water levels and current change after rain, and the canyon is one of the places where local guidance about conditions should be taken seriously rather than negotiated with.
And Batu Cermin?
Batu Cermin — “mirror stone” — is a limestone cave complex ten to fifteen minutes from town, where at certain times of day sunlight enters through gaps in the rock and reflects off the walls. There are marine fossils in the limestone, a reminder that this whole landscape was seabed.
It takes about ninety minutes including the drive and the guided walk, which makes it the perfect filler for a departure day when your flight is in the afternoon and you cannot dive. Some crouching and one or two narrow sections are involved; it is not suitable for anyone with significant mobility limitations.
How does fly-after-dive timing constrain your plans?
This is the constraint that shapes everything else. Standard diving guidance is a minimum surface interval before flying — commonly cited as around 18 hours after repetitive multi-day diving, with 24 hours used as the conservative planning figure. Your last dive is therefore not on the last morning of the trip; it is the day before disembarkation.

Getting home from Labuan Bajo
Komodo Airport sits roughly ten to fifteen minutes from the harbour, and flights to Denpasar take about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes, with multiple daily departures in high season. Fares are commonly quoted around IDR 600,000–1,500,000 one way depending on season and lead time. Schedules change often, so keep a buffer between your extension and your flight — particularly after Wae Rebo, where a road delay is a real possibility.
