Kampung Ujung Pier
The working pier at the end of the waterfront strip. This is where most shared-departure and mid-range phinisi stage their guests. Expect a lively scene: crews wheeling provisions, dive tanks being ferried out, and several boats loading at once. Most phinisi anchor in the bay rather than docking, so from Kampung Ujung you usually board a small tender for a short ride out to your boat. Marina / Waterfront City (including Meruorah Pier)
The newer marina zone along the redeveloped waterfront. Higher-tier phinisi and private charters often stage here because it offers calmer boarding, easier vehicle access and, in some cases, direct gangway boarding without a tender. Drive time from the airport is only a few minutes longer than Kampung Ujung.
Here is the part nobody tells you: the boarding point is not fixed. It is assigned around harbour traffic and can shift on the morning of departure. Guests who were told “the harbor” and simply directed a taxi to the main port sometimes end up standing at the wrong jetty watching an unfamiliar fleet load. The Pickup-Slip System: How a Good Transfer Is Coordinated
A pickup slip is a short written brief — usually a WhatsApp message the evening before departure — that ties the whole leg together. A complete one contains:
- Driver name, phone and vehicle plate, with the meeting point at the arrivals exit (a name sign is standard)

- Soft duffels beat hard shells. Rigid suitcases are awkward to pass down into a moving tender and eat cabin storage space.

- Dive gear travels fine — tell the operator in advance so the right vehicle is sent; a dive bag plus two duffels does not fit every sedan.

The flight from Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo takes about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, with multiple daily departures in high season and one-way fares typically in the IDR 600,000–1,500,000 range (roughly USD 40–100) as of 2026, depending on season and how early you book.
